Respecting place but not time, Going Home is an expression of four kilometres of my commute home in a five minute time-lapse video with sonified data based on traveling speed.
Going Home is a selection of images and sonified data from oh, those everyday spaces (OTES). The OTES database contains about 25,000 images, 80,000 GPS data points, and hourly weather data from 3 local stations. Data was collected over a 15-month period between January 2002 and March 2003. The images were captured once each minute while cycling using a digital camera in time-lapse mode.
Going Home was screened the T-Minus Festival of Timelapse Video (New York, NY, 2004) and The Eco Art and Media Festival (Toronto, 2004), Toronto Bike Week 2004 Bike Art Showcase installed in Toronto City Hall (100 Queen Street West, May 24 - 28, 2004) and Metro Hall (55 John Street, May 31 to June 4, 2004), and RestCycling Art Festival [video projections] (Berlin, Germany, September 2004).
